Uplift

Uplift is a campaign group concerned with North Sea oil and gas licensing and its impact on energy policy. They advocate for a shift away from fossil fuels. Uplift is currently newsworthy due to their research highlighting the limited gas production resulting from hundreds of North Sea licenses granted by the Conservative government between 2010 and 2024. Their analysis, conducted with energy consultancy Voar, found that these licenses have yielded only 36 days' worth of gas. This research is relevant in the context of ongoing debates about energy security, fossil fuel reliance, and the UK's transition to renewable energy sources. The findings are used to challenge arguments for expanding North Sea oil and gas exploration and production, particularly in light of Kemi Badenoch's push to reverse the ban on new oil and gas licenses.
