Aldo Moro

Aldo Moro was a prominent Italian statesman who served as Prime Minister of Italy twice, in 1963-1968 and 1974-1976. He was also a key figure in the Christian Democracy party and played a significant role in post-war Italian politics, including participating in the 1975 Rambouillet Summit that laid the groundwork for the G7. Moro's life tragically ended in 1978 when he was kidnapped and subsequently murdered by the left-wing terrorist group Red Brigades during a period of intense political violence in Italy. His death remains a significant event in Italian history. Recently, Moro has become newsworthy due to a diplomatic dispute between Italy and Nicaragua. Italy has demanded Nicaragua extradite a man convicted in Moro's murder. Nicaragua's refusal to comply has led to the severing of diplomatic ties between the two nations, highlighting the enduring international repercussions of this historical crime.
