Lewie Chiaramello

Lewie Chiaramello is a pro-Palestinian activist associated with the group Palestine Action. He gained recent media attention for participating in a hunger strike while imprisoned in the UK. The hunger strike, along with those of other Palestine Action members like Heba Muraisi and Kamran Ahmed, was undertaken to protest the UK's designation of Palestine Action as a 'terrorist organisation' and to demand a fair trial. The activists also sought to pressure the government regarding its relationship with Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems. Chiaramello, along with others, ended his hunger strike after reports emerged that Elbit Systems UK was denied a UK government contract. Concerns for the health and well-being of the hunger strikers, including Chiaramello, were widely reported, prompting solidarity from writers, scholars, and former hunger strikers. He is also accused of breaking into a British military air base and damaging two planes in protest against the UK’s support for Israel’s war in Gaza.
