Yin Yuzhen

Yin Yuzhen is a 60-year-old Chinese farmer from Inner Mongolia, recognized for her decades-long dedication to combating desertification. Hailing from a poor background, her persistent efforts in planting trees in the Maowusu Desert have significantly contributed to environmental restoration. She gained national recognition, being awarded as a National Model Worker by China's State Council in 2000. Recently, Yin Yuzhen has become newsworthy due to her reaching out to Ronald Sakolsky, a retired American teacher who, inspired by her work in 1999, donated US$5,000 to support her tree-planting initiatives. Sakolsky is now planning a trip to China to reunite with Yin and witness the forest that his contribution helped create.
