Zahra Sarbali

Zahra Sarbali is an Iranian footballer who was part of the Iranian women's football delegation that participated in the Women's Asian Cup held in Australia. She gained recent attention when she, along with teammate Mona Hamoudi and others, initially sought asylum in Australia after being granted humanitarian visas. This action brought to light the pressures faced by Iranian female athletes. However, Sarbali, along with two other members of the delegation, later changed her mind and decided to return to Iran. The initial asylum request and subsequent reversal have highlighted the complex circumstances and potential pressures experienced by Iranian athletes competing internationally, as well as the scrutiny they face from both within and outside Iran.
