Pakistan reports that two of its soldiers were killed and three injured after the Afghan Taliban launched an operation against Pakistani military positions along their shared border on Thursday. The clashes followed Pakistani air strikes inside Afghanistan earlier in the week, which Islamabad claimed targeted militant camps in response to suicide blasts on Pakistani soil. The Taliban stated their operation was a "retaliatory operation" for the strikes, claiming they killed numerous Pakistani soldiers and captured others, which Pakistan denies. Both sides claim to have inflicted heavy casualties on the other. Residents near the border reported hearing explosions and gunfire, with some being asked to evacuate. Pakistan asserts it will take necessary measures to ensure its territorial integrity.
