Deir Hafer

Deir Hafer is a town located in the eastern Aleppo Governorate of Syria. It has recently become newsworthy due to a shift in territorial control. For some time, the area was controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). However, following a military operation launched by the Syrian army and an internationally sponsored deal, the SDF withdrew from Deir Hafer and other towns in the region. Syrian government troops have subsequently moved in, taking control of the area. Residents of Deir Hafer have been reported to be celebrating the arrival of the Syrian army. This shift is significant as it represents a change in the balance of power in the region, with the Syrian government regaining control over territory previously held by Kurdish forces. The US has urged de-escalation amidst these advances.
