M-607

The M-607 is a highway in the Community of Madrid, Spain, currently undergoing expansion to add a third lane between Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo. This expansion project includes the construction of an ecoduct, a 137-meter 'green highway' designed to prevent animal crossings and reduce wildlife fatalities. The ecoduct will feature encinas and retamas. The first two kilometers of the seven-kilometer expansion are expected to open soon. However, the M-607 is also newsworthy due to increasing vandalism targeting speed control radars along the road. These radars are frequently damaged, with smashed windows, paint covering the lenses, or complete destruction. The repeated vandalism is a growing concern, prompting calls for increased vigilance from the Guardia Civil. The M-607 is therefore relevant both for infrastructure improvements aimed at environmental protection and for the challenges posed by vandalism affecting road safety measures.
