Diputación de Valencia

The Diputación de Valencia, a provincial council currently presided over by Vicente Mompó of the Partido Popular (PP), is under intense scrutiny following the hiring of Vanesa Soler, the partner of the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Juanfran Pérez Llorca (also PP). Soler was hired as a secretary of direction with a salary of €52,070 per year. The hiring, approved on March 3rd, was justified by the Diputación as being due to an "urgent need." Opposition parties (PSPV and Compromís) have strongly criticized the move, alleging nepotism and accusing Pérez Llorca of creating a "tailor-made" position for his partner. They are demanding explanations and transparency regarding the hiring process. The PSPV has requested an official investigation into the matter, questioning whether the principles of legality and equal opportunity were followed. The controversy has dominated recent political discussions in Valencia, including sessions in Les Corts, the Valencian parliament.
