Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is Ukraine's main security agency, primarily responsible for internal security, counter-intelligence, and combating terrorism. Since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, the SBU has also been involved in assassinations, sabotage, and other operations against Russian forces. The SBU is currently newsworthy due to leadership changes, with President Zelenskyy recently replacing Vasyl Malyuk as head of the SBU. Malyuk reportedly resigned after leading daring raids against Russia. The SBU has also been active in conducting attacks far from Ukrainian borders, such as the recent drone strike on a Russian tanker off the Libyan coast. Additionally, the SBU recently detained a British national accused of aiding Russia's FSB in an assassination plot within Ukraine, highlighting the agency's role in countering Russian intelligence operations and maintaining internal security amid the ongoing conflict.
