Agencia Española de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutrición (Aesan)

The Agencia Española de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutrición (Aesan), or Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, is a body dependent on the Ministry of Consumer Affairs in Spain. Aesan is currently newsworthy due to issuing several recent health alerts regarding food products contaminated with harmful bacteria. Specifically, Aesan has expanded an alert concerning Listeria monocytogenes contamination in a batch of Norwegian smoked salmon, initially affecting the Skandia brand and now including Gourmet and Carrefour brands. Additionally, Aesan has alerted consumers to the presence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) in a specific lot of La Réserve des Crémiers Camembert cheese sold in Madrid and Catalonia.
