Indonesia Air Transport is an aviation group that recently experienced a significant incident involving one of its aircraft. The company's ATR 42-500 turboprop, a fisheries surveillance plane, went missing on January 17, 2026, while en route from Yogyakarta to Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi. The plane, carrying 11 people (initially reported as 10), including three employees from the fisheries ministry, lost contact with air traffic control while approaching a mountainous region on Sulawesi island during cloudy conditions. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched. The wreckage of the plane was subsequently located on the slope of Mount Bulusaraung. As of January 18, 2026, rescuers had recovered wreckage and the body of one person on board. The incident has drawn national attention due to the loss of life and the involvement of government employees, highlighting the challenges of air travel in Indonesia's mountainous regions.
