Antequera

Antequera is a city in the province of Málaga, Spain. It's currently newsworthy due to its role as a crucial transfer point for travel between Madrid and Málaga, particularly concerning high-speed rail (AVE) services. Ongoing infrastructure work on the Madrid-Málaga AVE line, specifically near Álora, has caused partial closures and disruptions. As a result, Renfe, the Spanish national railway company, is using Antequera as a hub. Passengers travel by train from Madrid to Antequera, and then complete their journey to Málaga by bus. This arrangement is in place to circumvent the affected section of the rail line. The situation is especially relevant during peak travel periods like Semana Santa, when Renfe is increasing capacity on the Madrid-Antequera-Málaga route to accommodate the high demand. Adif, the railway infrastructure manager, is working to restore the full AVE line as quickly and safely as possible, with a revised reopening forecast expected soon.
